On a relaxing Autumn day, Just Shearing held the inaugural Shearing

was the day of shearing machines humming away constantly as 23 shearers
lined up to shear the waiting merino sheep & Samm cross sheep. Over 300
adults & children were shepherded through the starting gate was a fantastic
attendance. It was great to see people had come from Adelaide, Yorke

There were things to see & do through out the day.
There was a display of
Neville Loffler’s Dohne sheep , John Heinsen’s Working dog display, Have a
go shearing with David Reichelt assisting for the day. This proved to be
quite popular with a few non shearers having a go at what it is like for the
shearer to shear! David was also selling his catch of fish for the week
giving the Heart Foundation $1 per kg sold. For the younger folk
there was a colouring in competition which children could enter previously
or on the day as well as a writing competition which was for 10 years to
adult. Cooper Pfitzner won the 0-3 category, Caitlin Keleher won the
4-6 category & Gary Schutz won the 7-10 category. There were 3 entries
for the writing competition with Naomi Voigt winning the prize. John
Hayes organised the boot throwing competition & was surrounded by many happy
youngster wanting to have a go .The winner was the throw that was the
closest to the target. Solomon Voigt just nicked the bag & declared the
winner! Have a guess at the amount of the jelly beans took the eye
of many guesses from people & Mary Morris has a jar of jelly beans to enjoy
with her spot on winning guess of 113 jelly beans! The morning tea
competition saw 5 entries, with 2 judges & 2 shearers judging the event, 1st
went to Carol Voigt, 2nd went to Coral Jenke.
While spectators enjoyed the shearing competition, there were plenty of food supplies by the
St John’s Parents & Friends ranging from Steak sandwiches to hotdogs etc as
well as scrumptious doughnuts. Bower progress group kept everyone refreshed
with a range of drinks while Impact canopies had milkshakes & animal
balloons & other small items for kids to enjoy. Animal balloons being a hit
amongst the junior folk! Displays from Web South – local computing
business and Remlap manufacturing – being oilskin & safety clothing as well
as denim clothing & dungarees were available. Just Shearing will be
stocking the Remlap brand for those who had a look at their display.
Pony rides were also a success with the children. Especially with Jourdon
Jenke who seemed to be constantly comparing the riding of both ponies!!! She
is proud to say she had over 10 rides!!!!! Shearer’s supplies were also
